If you run an Airbnb on the Mornington Peninsula, chances are you have a list of things you like your guests to take care of when they leave - but the rules have now changed. Read on to make sure you don’t get caught out when Airbnb’s new policy comes into effect on November 20.
Airbnb have announced changes to their ‘House Rules’ section and in doing so have dramatically cracked down on the list of tasks that hosts, up until now, have been asking their guests to take care of as part of the check out process.
Things you can no longer ask your guests to do:
🚫 Wash and put away dishes
🚫 Strip the linen from beds
🚫 Start a load of laundry
🚫 Take their rubbish offsite or in outdoor bins
🚫 Tasks that would typically be performed by a cleaner
What you CAN ask your guests to do:
✅ That they put dishes in the sink
✅ Gather used towels
✅ Use the indoor rubbish bins for garbage, separated into landfill/recycling.
✅ Turn off certain appliances when they leave.
These new rules will apply to any bookings made on or after November 20.
You can still ask things of guests in addition to Airbnb’s list of standard ‘House Rules’ in a section called ‘Additional Rules’ (previously called ‘Requests’). But keep in mind that Airbnb will now be reviewing the ‘Additional Rules’ across all listings and will flag if they think anything is ‘unreasonable’. You’ll be able to appeal their request for changes but refusal to remove the rule however could reduce the visibility of your listing in search or even suspend the listing. If you want to go through the nitty gritty - here is the official statement from Airbnb.
